According to Tim Cook, the adoption rate of iOS 18.1 is significantly higher than that of iOS 17.1 over the same period in 2023. Tim Cook said that the higher rate of updates is one of the first signs of Apple Intelligence’s effectiveness, just before the company’s most recent earnings call.
In an interview with CNBC, he said, “This is a relatively early stat, which is only three days worth of data, but consumers are adopting iOS 18.1 at twice the rate that they adopted 17.1 in the quarter prior.” He went on to say, “It is a combination that 15 was stronger than 14 in the year… and 16 was stronger than 15.” “Remember that the 15 Pro and Pro Max are also equipped with Apple Intelligence.”
Cook is implying, at the very least, that Apple Intelligence is encouraging both new iPhone 16 users and those who are still using the 2023 Pro devices to update.
He did not go into greater information, and it is unclear if the higher adoption rate is only in the US or worldwide. Apple Intelligence was only made available to the general public in the United States as of October 28, 2024.
Additionally, Cook has not disclosed the Mac’s adoption rates. On the same day, Apple Intelligence was made available to macOS Sequoia users in the United States.
