LG G3 oled TV – best TV tested

Although it is not the company's newest model, LG's G3 OLED TV is a stylish, high-end smart TV with some amazing features.

Let me go right to the matter. We do a lot of TV testing. I knew I would be watching a much-discussed TV when we learned that I would be testing out LG’s G3 along with one of the brand’s new soundbars.

This television is still amazing even though it is over a year old and LG has now updated it with the G4. In terms of the set’s style and display, it is among the most attractive TVs I have ever tried. Its small form houses a ton of features and really good acoustics, and everything of the video I tested looked stunning.

Sizes for the G3 range from 55 to 83 inches. I put the 65-inch to the test for this evaluation. Let us examine what makes this television so excellent. I was immediately struck by how svelte the G3 is.

It is made to sit flush on a wall, with a bezel that is nearly invisible and barely an inch thick. I decided to install it on a stand instead because I was only going to be using it for a short time, but it still looked classy.

There are four HDMI 2.1 eARC ports on this set. I found it straightforward to access the small hole on the left side of the TV, which houses all the inputs. I had no trouble attaching whatever I wanted to the G3, unlike some TVs that have inputs in the middle, making them hard to reach.

Since I like physical media, I normally start by turning on a Blu-ray disc before testing out a TV. I chose my all-time favorite film for this test: “Ghostbusters.” It was as if I had never seen it before. This film contains a number of darker situations, and I was able to identify nuances I had previously missed. Compared to most TVs I have seen, I thought the G3 handled upscaling better.

I went to Netflix to try something a little more contemporary, and I immediately started the latest “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” I was even more amazed with a wonderful balance of light and dark scenes. Dark scenes were never washed out, and colors were extraordinarily vivid when they were meant to be.

This is without a doubt one of the best television presentations I have ever seen. It uses Micro Lens Array technology, which is a layer of tiny lenses on top of OLED pixels that is said to increase brightness. This was particularly apparent to me when I tested a few games; in contrast, my regular screen now appears drab.

Dolby Atmos is supported by the G3, and according to LG, the integrated AI converts two-channel audio into realistic 7.1.2 surround sound.

Even though it is not “real” surround sound, I was rather pleased with the sound quality and could tell that it was a big improvement over regular TV speakers. A number of other audio settings are also available, including sports, music, clear voice, and cinema, which gives action sequences a pleasing bottom rumble.

The G3’s ability to withstand bright illumination is one of the little features I like the most. There is a bright overhead light and plenty of natural light streaming in from the sides of my living room. I placed this TV in front of my standard LED wall-mounted TV while I tested it.

One could see the difference between the two right away. Although I could see a reflection from my overhead light, it was not noticeable, and the side light had no effect whatsoever on the G3. It significantly reduces the display on my regular TV.

The anti-glare screen coupled with this set’s 1,400 nits of brightness means you’ll be able to enjoy content in any condition, especially bright windows, the bane of most TVs.

I soon realized this was going to be one of my favorite tests when it came time to play games. The G3 has an exceptionally bright display, as I previously stated, and it really came to life here. Regardless of the game, the colors were more vivid than ever while remaining remarkably realistic. I never experienced any stuttering or slowdowns, and the refresh rate of 120Hz is sufficient to ensure that everything functions without hiccups.

Although I do not generally play around with settings, I had fun exploring the Game Optimizer menu to see what adjustments various settings brought about. Devoted gamers will likely notice these changes, but most won’t.

The 65-inch LG G3 had an MSRP of $3,299.99 when it first came out. Some folks were definitely put off by that price, which is at the higher end of the OLED spectrum. The cost of last year’s set has decreased to about $2,000 at most stores, including Amazon and Best Buy, since the release of the G4.

The savings should be very alluring if you are in the market for a new television. Since this set is so good at everything, I truly could not choose just one area in which it shines. There are not many better options than the G3 if you want a more expensive OLED TV but can not afford the higher prices that typically accompany them.
